Yes, It's Slow, I Think

July 24, 2007

Today is the same as yesterday, slow. I’m starting on my blog earlier than usual because I am waiting for Badesch to get through helping other people so we can work on something for the movie. Nobody is doing a blog anymore. I believe I’m the only one who is doing one everyday. I’m afraid to just sit here and do nothing, but I know someone is going to say something and Badesch is going to yell or something. So I gotta keep a low profile on what I am doing, so I do a blog. [and he does trailers for the movie, learns video editing and helps where help is needed – Ed. Note]

Davis Brothers Back

July 23, 2007

Today, we had our 1st Director Terrell and his brother Lennell back. I guess they talked something over so they can come back. But they are assisting editor Jamal with certain parts, they are having fun on one part. Mostly everyone was working on a trailer or teaser for the majority of the day. We have someone working on the invitations/flyers, and two people working on DVD cover. This day was moving slowly at first, but now I felt it picking up. Yesterday was my birthday and I didn’t do anything but stay home, some people wished me a Happy Belated Birthday today, and some looked at me funny or didn’t talk to me. I feel useless because I don’t have anything to do yet but wait on the video to be finished and that is taking too long. I wish they can finish up, just so I can get done with what I need to get finished

Getting There

July 20, 2007

Today is slow, isn’t much to do today. This is going to be a long boring weekend because my birthday is Sunday. I’m not really excited like I was, but I got to stay focused on work. This program is over in a week, and we have to really rush now. Everyone is almost done, but we don’t need to be done with certain things until Tuesday. Blooper reel is almost done I guess, and I’m ready to go home and sleep. Festivals are almost done, but they need to send in information by Elizabeth Donius. We have the screening for the movie next moth, but we don’t know exact date yet.

Accounting 101

July 19, 2007

Today was a very fast day, because Mrs. Stackhouse (over this program) wanted us to come downstairs to do an accounting meeting on how to manage our accounts. Most of us were wondering why she wanted to do this meeting now, and she should have done this before we got paid last week? But we were down there about 2 hours; I knew most of the stuff they were trying to teach us. They even had us doing math, it’s not like I don’t like it, but I wasn’t in the mood to be doing math problems. I was kind of bored just sitting there listening to someone trying to teach me something I already knew, but they gave us candy. I swear that everybody who was in the room bum rushed the desk at the end to get candy, but they had us in two different rooms doing the same thing. When we got back up here into the room, we went back to our post-production jobs; it was really fast after then. I am practically done with the DVD, but I need to wait for everyone else to get through with editing their parts so I can input footage into this DVD.

Catching Up

July 18, 2007

We have finished filming the movie, and we are in post production. I haven’t done a blog in a week, so here is a quick recap over the past week. We have lost the Director Terrell Davis, and his brother Lennell who was doing soundtrack and was helping the PA’s carrying equipment. But we have recovered from the loss; the new Director was Angelica Allen who was previously mainly working as Producer. It was a hard working week with a lot of attitudes, laughs, losses, and accomplishments.

We had to carry heavy equipment from one floor to another. I swear when we were shooting the scene in the house when Matthew (Andy) was doing the shower scene (he had shorts on people, what type of minds do you have?), the doc crew came up out of nowhere and began filming him. They weren’t doing their job on that day, but they sprung into action when he was half naked. We got paid on July 13, 2007, and everybody didn’t have the same amount because they didn’t come to work on time.

We didn’t have as many extras as we wanted, but we had to make use of them all. We finished on Monday July 16, 2007, and now we have to work extra hard. Now we have people editing the movie, documentary, film festival entries, photos, and me I’m doing the DVD. It’s very confusing, but once you get the hang of it, it’s really easy until you don’t know how to do something else on there. But I have to wait for the editors and doc to finish so I can input some video into the DVD. But once we get through with all of this, the program will be over next Friday.

First Day of the Shoot

July 10, 2007

Today was the first day of shoot for this movie; I was really excited in the morning. I was pumped, but it was really boring at times because people were bothering us while we were trying to shoot certain parts and too many different noises in the background. I had to set up this extra large tent by myself at first; I could only get it half way until I finally got help when they got to the next location. We had the trained animal changed from a dog to a raccoon, most people were scared of it until we started to shoot. While we were filming one part, this old man came out his house and told us to get from in front of his house before he comes outside. What was he going to do? Nag us to death, him and his old German shepherd? They both looked like they needed to be on walkers, smelling like cheap old Pine-Sol. This was a long day; I was tired when I got home because I had to walk down Jeffery to catch another bus. I wonder what the next day will bring us.

Nerves Enter The Picture

July 9, 2007

Today we were doing more practice for the movie, tomorrow is the beginning of production. The money bags of this group, Elizabeth, took art department shopping for food for all week, and for the movie. I was really bored today, I guess because I’m nervous about this week. But I know nothing bad will happen; only I hope. But I got a feeling someone isn’t going to be with us anymore.

A very busy day

July 6, 2007

Today we went into the teacher’s lunchroom to practice for the lunchroom scene. We start shooting the movie on Tuesday July 10, 2007. Some of us were background dancers in the rehearsal, it was so shallow. [One of our fellow workers had a bad day and we were all thinking of her all day.]

A Busy But Tired Day

July 5, 2007

Today I was so tired from the 2 days we got off, I was kind of sleepy. I had started on my DVD design for the movie; I was sleepy and wasn’t really paying attention to Mr. B when he was teaching me how to use the application. But I did retain most of what he was saying, when I was trying the application on the Apple computer, I was kind of mad because I couldn’t remember what to use to connect what, to open this for that. I was really lost, but I got help and I finished what I could for today. I stayed in the room for most of the day. I was working and didn’t have time to stop and do something else. One of the girls brought in a dog that we might use in the movie; everybody was really busy for today. Devon Robinson

Getting Close

July 5, 2007 (Thursday)

The time is almost here! We have three more days until the first shoot (July 10). Today the dog came in to practice for the scene (7). The dog was really friendly and obeyed the owner. The janitors came in at nine o’clock to practice. More of the actors should be on their way. The costume and props crew showed us all the great things they had for the film. Angelica and I (Danielle) start working on the credits (opening and closing). The Documentary is coming along great, they have some great footage. But until then….I’ll keep you posted

A Hard Working Day

July 2, 2007

Today was a long and productive day. Evan, Isaiah, Jarvon, Nicole, Danielle, and I (Devon) had to go all the way to the other side of the school (Partee) to shoot our own mini movie. We had to carry the C stand, tripod, lights, cords, and camera to shoot it. C stand is for the lights, the tripod is for the camera if you didn’t know. B ut when we got back to the room with the actors, it was around 11:30 am, and Jarvon, Isaiah, and I had to wrap up cords in the hot hallways. We haven’t had anything to eat; I might go to Burger King after this. But I am tired from moving the lights (they are really heavy), holding up the boom for sound, and carrying all this stuff back to the room. Well I should be going. I’m about ready to go play basketball and eat. Devon Robinson

This School Is So Big

June 29, 2007

Today we are doing a read aloud with the actors and practice before the shoots. We have someone who came in and I believe that he is talking to Jasmine about the costumes in the art department. I am escorting the actors from the room all the way back to the front. That is a long walk. I am so bored, I have nothing to do. I was taking pictures but someone else is doing that now. I have to run back and forth from 1 side of the school to the other just to drop off the actors. It is really getting on my nerves but I can last without blowing a fuse. I am having fun, but I wish I had some music to listen to. We can’t listen to music, for some reason. I am forgetting to do things now, something is wrong with me. But hopefully week 3 will go smoother. I hope I don’t blow a fuse on someone. Devon Robinson

Auditions Were Rough

June 28, 2007

Today we were casting for the movie at the school (CVCA); we had very few people coming early. There were teachers and also the crew coming in and eating the doughnuts that was for the actors. So Mr. Badesch had to go out and get some more, he was getting furious because we weren’t organized out in the registration area. We got a little organized, but crew that was inside the audition room kept coming out complaining saying to send in the next person, and too many people outside the door waiting to go in. More people began coming in around 11-12, and we get off at 12pm. So we stayed overtime, many people were complaining about Isaiah saying he wasn’t doing his job, and everyone else was doing his job instead. They really dogged him, but the pressure was just on him for that day. But we got through the day and we got the cast for the movie, I can’t wait to see what they got.

Getting Hectic

June 29, 2007 (Friday)

We finally did it! We have all our actors for “Wake me up Later”. Yesterday (Thursday, auditions) was so hectic…! It was crazy, people were NOT doing their job and people were doing other peoples' jobs. There were arguments, frowns, and lots of YELLING. Today the actors came in at 9:17 and John started to explain to them what we need for the next 4 weeks. We (staff and crew) just hope the actors participate very well. Now that it is 11 (actors) more people its going to get worse. But more coffee and donuts.

From Danielle - 6-27-07

Hi, I’m back again on the third day of the second week. Today we are really working hard getting ready for auditions. Also we are starting to bring in props and things that will help with the movie. Now, John is starting to get pissed off because people are really lacking in their department. People are doing other people jobs! Also being rude like talking while he is talking! Auditions are tomorrow (Thursday) and we have a lot of actors coming in. Until then….. I will keep you posted!

From Danielle 6-26-07

I am working with the Kidstart (IFP), helping with the movie. This is the second day of the second week and people are already starting to get LAZY. Mr. B is starting to show his real side with his mood swings……but we still love him! We started bringing in our props for the movie today. Most of the people went to go look at locations like the house scene, outside scene and school scene. Jamal is putting up things to keep us on track for the movie. The casting for the movie is coming along great. The mini movies turned out great. This is just the beginning, we have so much work to do for the next 5 weeks! So the complaining and irritation has begun.

From Devon - 6-25-07

June 25, 2007

This is the first day of week 2, and we have a lot of stuff to do. Today we were editing our 10 minute movies we started on Friday; mostly everybody is playing around because we aren’t doing anything. Mr. B is getting restless, I think he just blew at fuse (10:24 am). But I think people should stop talking and do something, anything. Some of us were filmed for parts of the documentary about what we do, and casting group is having a ball getting people for this film. There is going to be a lot of film for the Documentary, I’m kind of doing doc, for the computer though. I’m letting everyone of you know what’s going on while I type; I wish these people could calm down. Mr. B is getting real P.O., so I shall be on my way to do something else. Till tomorrow……. I’ll keep you all posted.

From Devon 6-26-07

June 26, 2007

Today, there were many people going out to search for locations. Most of us stayed behind at the “office” to work on other things we need to get done. We were all working, until around 10:20 am, we were talking, on the computer working on blogs, and other things. Everybody began coming back from looking at locations, and just doing what they need too. Casting department is having a horrible time with cast, info on website, and with each other. It’s like I would work, and the other wouldn’t. They're having miscommunication with each other, but they're working on their issues to get their work together.

Some of us are working on the spoofs; we were talking about the last movie. Because I also have to do Boom during the movie, and they were telling me to do some push ups to get my arms ready. Because the boy last year kept complaining about the Boom was too heavy, and they could hear him in the background.

From Devon 6-22-07

June 22, 2007

Today, most of us take a break off from the main movie, and are breaking down into groups and are making our own mini movie. I believe they are supposed to be 5 minutes long, but everyone was finished around 8:50am. We had 4 hours to finish, we start at 8am, we have to choose places to shoot our movies, and shoot the movies. There were many places being occupied, and there were people roaming the halls talking and walking in the shot. It was difficult to shoot inside; some went outside to the park. But today was an educational learning/fun experience.

From Devon

June 27, 2007

At the beginning of the day, we sat at the table for a discussion on tomorrow. It was mainly about casting, what they need to do for auditions, how they should act, and who we are still looking for. Also, we were discussing locations for the shoot. Now it feels like we are in crunch time for the beginning of the movie, nerves are being pushed and peoples' tempers are beginning to boil. I know that I am sleepy everyday and I don’t complain. And everybody has to get through with what they need to finish today before we leave today.

Learned a lot

Today we had visits from professionals in the video-film production industry. We met with an editor (Nadav Kurtz), a script supervisor, casting agents, sound production, and others. Tomorrow we start writing and shooting our group mini-movie. We've put out a call for rappers for the movie - we need a rapping granny. And we have an animal handler - we're going to have a dog, rabbit and ferret in the movie - we think. And we have our cheerleaders and our list of props. It's moving along pretty good so far.
